Job advertisement accountant/finance officer






Position Title:     Accountant
Duty Station:      Nairobi


Job Summary

Assisting the Finance Manager to ensure proper financial procedures and systems are implemented and maintained at SP Nairobi Office and field/project locations.

Key Responsibilities

·         Supervise the daily functions including recording all cash, check and bank transfer transactions, maintain cash and bank ledgers, monitor cash advances and field expense reports
·         Responsible for processing some of the Field Expense Reports (Hola)
·         Assist on preparation of accurate and timely donor financial reports that meets various donor requirements
·         Make any adjustments to month reports as per recommendations by the FM, RFO, CD’s and PM’s.
·         Carry out training and orientation of new Field logisticians/bookkeepers on SP – financial procedures and policies
·         Provide required monthly financial reports by specified deadlines to Finance Manager and his/her designee
·         Assist in performing budgetary controls and reviews
·         Assist with internal, external and specific program audits
·         Identify areas that need financial and administrative improvement and work with the Finance Manager to implement feasible improvements
·         Ensure financial/accounting activity is carried out in accordance SP’s field accounting policies
·         Provide support to Base Manager and/or Program Managers with regard to financial policies/practices and related areas as required
·         Work with and provide assistance to Finance Manager as required
·         With a generous and serving spirit perform all other tasks and responsibilities for the benefit of Samaritan’s Purse



Education / Experience Needed

·         University degree in Accounting or Business
·         Preferred previous work experience with an NGO
·         Interest in improving financial systems to be more cost effective, user friendly and efficient.

Skills Required

·         A Certified Public Accountant or a minimum of CPA Level IV
·         Experience with Accounting software packages
·         Excellent leadership qualities and ability to work well in a multi-cultural environment.
·         A committed Christian who will uphold the values and mission of Samaritan’s Purse

Position:          LIVESTOCK FIELD OFFICER

Reports to:      PROGRAM MANAGER, LIVESTOCK AND AGRICULTURE

Duty Station:  KINANGO, KENYA

Status:             2 Positions

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Mobilization of beneficiaries for the livestock project.
  2. Organize the beneficiaries to develop the activities of the project.
  3. Provide technical training and assistance to the beneficiaries.
  4. Supervise the construction of the livestock project infrastructure i.e. shelters etc.
  5. Monitoring on the progress of the livestock project in the designated area of work.
  6. Assist in the commercialization of the projects where this is a component of the program.
  7. Carry out the tasks and coordination in the field that are required for the development of the project according to the plan of the organization e.g. monitoring, evaluation and program sustainability.
  8. Prepare timely reports of the field work and submit them to the program manager. 
  9. Participate in the activities of the organization when they relate to livestock projects.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in either Animal Health, Animal Production or General Agriculture
  • 2 – 3 years experience in working in a similar position or within a livestock implementation program
  • Preferred previous work experience with an NGO
  • Computer Literate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Display intercultural sensitivity
  • Display a high level of integrity and honesty
  • Ability to multitask, solve problems and prioritize.
  • Be willing to work and spend most of the time in the field
  • A committed Christian who will uphold the values and mission of Samaritan’s Purse.
